Art Journal Page – Make a Beautiful Mess Today

Hi Artsy Friends,
I haven’t done any art journal page for a long time. Inspired by Tania Ahmed’s Demystifying Mixed Media Art Journals Online Class offered at Altenew Academy, I dug out my art journal and made this page. It is the very first time for me to try Watercolor Brush Marker droplets over a gesso-primed page, then used a brayer to spread out the colors. It’s so much fun to MAKE A BEAUTIFUL MESS today!

Hope the page is eye-pleasing to you. Thanks for stopping by and wish you a great day.

Art Journal Page Details
Watercolor Brush Markers, sentiment stamps and butterfly dies are by Altenew. Background stamp and alphabet stencil are by Tim Holtz. Mixed Media elements stencil is by TCW.

I’d like to enter this page to the following challenges.

Art Journal Page – Just a Note

Hi Artsy Friends,

It’s time to play along with Happy Little Stampers (HLS) Mixed Media Challenge again. The March Challenge Theme is MUSIC.
For more details and other DTs’ inspirations, please check out the Challenge Blog. Anything mixed media could be linked up to our challenge as long as it follows our theme.

Starting from 2019, I decided to challenge myself to create art journal pages as my DT artwork for HLS MM Challenge. This is my third try. I love music, yet with this theme I found that I have very rare music-related stamps. I finally dug out this set of stamps (by My Favorite Things, retired) which is perfect for this challenge. Yay! The following are how I made my page.

Art Journal Details
1. Apply various Distress Oxide Inks on page.

2. Splash some water droplets on page for fade effect.

3. Glue tissue paper scrap on page and apply various Distress Oxide Inks over stencil on page.

4. Apply Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink over another stencil on page.

5. Stamp focal image, color the image by Copic, cut out and adhere to page. Stamp several texts on page.

6. Apply more Distress Oxide Inks over stencils and also sponge edges to create more visual effects.

7. Apply Embossing Paste over stencils on edges to create textures.

8. Stamp treble score and music notes to finish.

I personally like the quotes very much.
“A real leader faces the music, even when he doesn’t like the tune.
Life is like a piano…what you get out of it depends on how you play it.
Love is like playing the piano. First you must learn to play by the rules, then you must forget the rules and play from your heart.”

I hope my page is inspirational to you. Please drop me a note if you like it. Thanks for stopping by and wish you a great day.

Art Journal Page- Have An Open Heart

Edited on 4/4/2019
I am happy that this page was chosen as Top Pick by Love To Craft Challenge #31.

Hi Stamping Friends,

It’s time to play along with Happy Little Stampers (HLS) Mixed Media Challenge again. The February Challenge Theme is VINTAGE.

For more details and other DTs’ inspirations, please check out the Challenge Blog. Anything mixed media could be linked up to our challenge as long as it follows our theme.

Starting from 2019, I decided to challenge myself to create art journal pages as my DT artworks for HLS MM Challenge. This is my second try. For me, VINTAGE is something with lots of dark colors like black and brown, some classic patterns like flourish, latticework and mosaic, some shining looks like gold metal, and some symbols like Fleur-de-lis and key. This is what and how I came up with.

Art Journal Details

1. Stamp text backgrounds (Tim Holtz) in black and apply several Distress Inks on page.

2. Apply Distress Oxide Ink Black Soot over Stencil on border of page.

3. Apply Distress Oxide Ripe Persimmon over Mosaic stencil (sorry I forgot to include these on photo), Gathered Twig over Silhouette Woman mask, Candied Apple over Sunburst stencil on page.

4. Apply Pearlescent Embossing Paste over Flourish stencil on two opposite corners on page and let dry.

5. Die cut hearts on red cardstock and cover with clear Wink of Stella. Adhere several Small Talk (
Tim Holtz) stickers on page.

6. Stamp key and Fleur-de-lis (by Tim Holtz) with VersaMark and heat emboss in Gold. Voila!

The following are some closeups.

I hope my page is eye-pleasing and inspirational to you. Please drop me a note if you like it. Thanks for stopping by and wish you a great day.
